New "Whiteout" Poster

We haven’t heard a whole lot about Kate Beckinsale’s Alaska mystery-thriller “Whiteout” ever since the movie was announced many moons ago, and a Frank Miller version of the poster surfaced a while back. Now finally we have something to report — well not really, but something to show you, anyway. Eagle eye reader Don recently sent in this latest poster for “Whiteout” (thumbnail to your left, bigger version below), which is based on a limited series comic book by Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber.

“Whiteout” is about a U.S. Marshal who is sent to Antarctica to investigate the continent’s first homicide, and has to do it within three days before the sun vanishes and is replaced by a long and dark 6-month winter. It will star Kate Beckinsale, Gabriel Macht, Tom Skerritt, and will be directed by Dominic Sena (”Swordfish”).

The poster would appear to be based upon this particular professional photo-shoot photo of Kate:

WGA Support Video

With the recent WGA labour strike on the go, a series of short films staring a number of A-list actors and actress' have been made as show of support for the union.

Not surprisingly, Kate stars in one of the many short films - episode #6 - with David Schwimmer, where the two are seen in what appears to be a prison attempting to talk to through the phone system to which naturally nothing can be heard; thus obviously promoting the title of these films: "Speechless". The some 40 second piece features "creative team" credit to Rod Lurie; who happens to be the director of Kate's next big film, "Nothing but the Truth".

The rest of the films can been seen HERE

CAST: David Schwimmer, Kate Beckinsale
CREATIVE TEAM: Rod Lurie
TECHNICAL TEAM: Joel Marshall, Anthony Marinelli, Clint Bennett

This is the sixth of the Writers Guild Of America member-conceived Internet videos for Project "Speechless" featuring A-list Screen Actors Guild talent. They are being hosted exclusively by DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com over Thanksgiving Weekend. For the first time in the TV and movie industry, high-profile SAG actors are together taking their talents directly and exclusively to the Internet, the very medium which is at the center of the current WGA labor strike against the Alliance Of Motion Picture & Television Producers. The project, conceived by director/writer George Hickenlooper and writer Alan Sereboff, will be releasing three videos here in the morning, afternoon and evening throughout this weekend. See them all!

The video can be seen HERE

P.S. - And yeah, I noticed that they spelled Kate's surname incorrect!

Kate Supports the WGA

Courtesy of Cinematical.com

Over at Deadline Hollywood Daily, Nikki Finke has something extra to be thankful for today: to thank her for her tireless coverage of the WGA strike, WGAW president Patrick Verrone has granted her exclusive posting of the WGA's "Speechless" internet videos over the holiday weekend. The vids, conceived of by director/writer George Hickenlooper and writer Alan Sereboff, will feature SAG actors in short pieces that support the concept that without the writers, there would be no movies.

Excerpt:

"Included are SAG talent such as Sean Penn, Holly Hunter, Laura Linney, Alan Cumming, Jay Leno, Harvey Keitel, Kate Beckinsale, Tina Fey, Tim Robbins, Gary Marshall, David Schwimmer, Patricia Clarkson, James Franco, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Martin Sheen, Josh Brolin, Susan Sarandon, Andre 3000, Chazz Palminteri, Jason Bateman, Christine Lahti, Patricia Arquette, Jenna Elfman, Olivia Wilde, Richard Benjamin, Paula Prentiss, Eva Longoria, Justine Bateman, Joshua Jackson, Rosanna Arquette, Diane Ladd, Rebecca Romjin, Minnie Driver, Nicollette Sheridan, Robert Patrick, Matthew Perry, Ed Asner, and America Ferrera and the cast of Ugly Betty. Arrangements have been made to also shoot Woody Allen, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jane Fonda, Marisa Tomei, Ethan Hawke, Jason Alexander, Charlize Therone, Minnie Driver, Philip Seymour Hoffman. Many, many more are also in the works."

P.S. - I'd like to wish those who live in the United States a (belated) Happy Thanksgiving.

Candids (11/20/07)

Here is the entire set of candids - in high res, mind you - from x17online.com's article I mentioned of some 20 minutes earlier.

"Classy Couple Alert"

One might think it's easy to find a Hollywood couple that always looks perfectly sleek and stylish, but that's not true - trashiness is far more common here! Such is not the case, however, with Kate Beckinsale and her director hubby Len Wiseman. Here's the twosome leaving Fred Segal in Beverly Hills yesterday... or perhaps they were leaving a magazine shoot? You never can tell with them!

"Which Celebrity Would You Like To Sleep With?"

Vote here >>> Seduction-Chronicles.net

I agree... It's more than somewhat of a shallow poll, but I thought I'd post it anyways. Kate's currently in third place with 49 votes, or 22% of the votes.

Eternal Collection Pendant

image hosted by ImageVenue.com image hosted by ImageVenue.com

Why: Brooke Shields recently ordered an Eternal collection pendant and she’s not alone—Kate Beckinsale and Courteney Cox-Arquette have also placed orders for these one-of-a-kind necklaces. The concept is easy; you select whether you want a round or rectangle shape and then pick the image you want to use. Keep in mind that the image produced on the pendant will be black and white.

Stefan Ranzlov utilizes a high-resolution laser inscription imaging process in order to permanently etch the finest details of your image onto white gold. What makes these pendants even more amazing is how the light hits the fine lines of the etching. It creates a holographic effect and the pendant changes color and luminance with every movement. The necklaces are almost guaranteed to be a treasured heirloom that will make a perfect gift.

Wiseman Likes Kate's Swearing

Posted: Mon Nov 19, 2007 2:21 am

TorontoSun.com

Swearing is hot and sexy for Hollywood filmmaker Len Wiseman, at least when it is delivered by a British babe like Keira Knightley or his own wife of three years, Kate Beckinsale.

"You know," Wiseman says with a chuckle in a Sun Media interview, "it's amazing because, with the accent, it strikes you in a different way. They take all the profanity and make it very proper."

Wiseman first encountered Beckinsale, already a mother of Lily, shooting the first Underworld (2003). "It kind of threw me when I met her," Wiseman says of her penchant for profanity.

"It's all a very British thing -- proper and British and tea cups and that kind of stuff. Then I told her: Honey, you swear like a sailor."

Wiseman is a hopeless romantic. When we talked, he had just returned from visiting his wife on a movie set in Memphis. He was buzzed because crew members told him: " 'She just lights up when you show up!' And that's great."

In addition to his bemused attitude toward her salty language, Wiseman loves Beckinsale's rapier wit. "I think she shocks everybody with how quick and sharp she is, actually. Really witty, really quick, and it throws them off a little bit."

It throws him off, too, because he is in such awe and in such love: "I'm just desperate to survive in this relationship!"

Kate Beckinsale: 'Willis Stole My Husband'

Hollywood star Kate Beckinsale was once jealous of actor Bruce Willis - because he spent valuable time with her husband Len Wiseman on the set of Die Hard 4.0. The actress resents Wiseman's occupation because it means he is away from home for months - and she is not impressed when the director spends more time with his cast than her.

She says, "When Len was directing Die Hard 4.0, I felt so lonely because he was virtually a stranger for several months. He only came home to sleep."

However the Pearl Harbor star has found a way for the couple to make up for lost time. "I told him he'd have to make it up to me. After he finished the film, I didn't let him out of bed for a month!"

Kate Through the Years

Nice little article from "browne's blog" on AfterEllen.

There are several reasons why I have long admired Kate Beckinsale. She’s a talented actress, who is capable of both excellent comic timing and subtle emotional response. She is, to state the obvious, extremely beautiful. She’s intelligent — she had started a degree at Oxford, studying French and Russian, before she dropped out after her third year to pursue her flourishing acting career.

Excerpt:

The site doesn’t state what year this photo was taken, but I think it’s safe to assume she can’t have been more than 18. I honestly cannot imagine what you would have had to do to me when I was a teenager to persuade me to pose with my mother (that’s Kate’s mom, actress Judy Loe, on the right), in matching outfits as if we were both dancing. I truly think that there’s something admirable, not only about being able to do something so adorably dorky, but also to look really cheerful doing it. Mothers across the world must wish their teenage daughters would be as sulk-deficient as Kate.

Perhaps the cheerfulness has something to do with the fact that it was about this time that she captured her first big-screen role, featuring as the sweet, innocent Hero in Kenneth Branagh’s excellent film adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing. I was 12 the year the movie was released, in 1993, and when I set eyes on Kate, it was pretty much love at first sight:

Additional Pix (Die Hard: 4.0 Premiere)

Randomly searching the Net, I'm stumbled upon these great pictures of Kate from the June 20th premiere of Die Hard: 4.0

Pictures taken (with much appreciation!) from
flickr.com courtesy of Caroline Bonarde Ucci.

Though I must say I wasn't too happy with Caroline's description of Kate: "English rose turned Hollywood barbie. She did look very pretty though.

Kate Hospitalized!!!

Actress Kate Beckinsale was hospitalized in Memphis, Tennessee for exhaustion. Beckinsale was taken to the hospital after complaining about numbness in her left arm and leg.

The actress was in the middle of a movie shoot when her assistant sprained her ankle, when Beckinsale took her to the hospital, doctors advised her to check in because she was suffering from exhaustion.

We hear Kate's doing much better now and just needed some R&R

Courtesy of Hollyscoop.com

What awful news, though I can't say I'm surprised about being diagnosed with some form exhaustion. Kate has been working like an army ant over the last year or so. She definitely needs to take a break!

We here at KateBecks wish Kate a speedy recovery.

Kate's Horror Therapy

Actress Kate Beckinsale loves working on horror movies - because she finds scary scenes extremely therapeutic. The British star recently appeared alongside Luke Wilson in horror thriller Vacancy, and admits the shoot was hugely enjoyable.

She said, "There is a lot to be said about the cathartic value of screaming your head off and portraying sheer dread and terror. I'm sure some sort of New Age psychotherapy follows the same principle."

Updates

Firstly, I must sincerely apologize for the three day delay in updating KateBecks. In addition to being strained for time personally, news relating to our beloved Kate hasn't exactly been rushing in.

Anyhoo, the first update is a review of the Blueray version of "Vacancy" written by one Peter Cullen. Peter not only gives us a respectable review on the film, but takes the time to go through some of the features which this recently released Blueray version of the film features.

Excerpts:

"So it is a refreshing change to see a film like Vacancy eschewing the full-on gross out horror that has become the norm and letting the viewer imagine and experience fear via tension and scares rather than buckets of claret."

"As unsavoury as the premise of the film may be, Vacancy is more of a thriller than a horror film, and you would have seen more blood and guts in an episode of Millennium than here. Fans of suspense should enjoy this one."

Bonus Features

Functional without being overkill would be a good description for the bonus features on this disc. First up is what the menu calls an alternate beginning is actually an alternate ending, a brief camera pan that ties the story up a little better than the actual ending does. How the mistake got past the disc creation is beyond me!

There is a single deleted scene that is rather forgettable, the complete snuff film reel is included but considering the film goes out of its way to cover the horror up, it seems a slightly strange choice to include here.

The main feature is a 22 minute “making of” documentary. Nothing particular awe inspiring here, your average talking head piece where the principal actors talk about the film but there’s nothing particularly interesting revealed.

Sadly there is no writer or directors commentary which would have completed the set nicely. Minor gripes aside, the features are presented in 1080i/MPEG2 and look just fine (the Raccoon Encounter is 480i SD video).

Meanwhile...

Though neither the article or the pictures within the article are new, a writer on Egotastic summed up their insight on Kate's spectacular body - based upon shots taken at the Die Hard 4: Live free or Die Hard premiere a while back:

Columbus Short Interview

You might recall, Kate went to Columbus' Birthday just a few months ago (September 18th).

His debut film opened at number one, and Columbus Short’s follow-up flick is looking at a high-profile opening later this month. So, what project does the fast-rising actor want to use his newfound clout to help bring to the screen?

Excerpt:

“I’m in a movie with kitty-cat-Kate,” he joked, revealing a playful nickname for his “Whiteout” co-star Ms. Beckinsale. “That one drops next October and it’s me, Kate, and Gabriel Macht. It’s a suspense/thriller that takes place in Antarctica. I’m a U.S. Coast Guard pilot, she’s a U.S. Marshall, and we’re on this track to figure out the first murder in Antarctica; it’s going to be an interesting tale.”

2008 Film Forecast

After completing just three movies in the last two years (Underworld: Evolution;Click & Vacancy), us Kate junkies are in for a big treat for 2008. As Kate's been a busy little bee over the last year or so, four of her movies are expected in '08. We can expect Winged Creatures, Whiteout, Snow Angels (official theatre release, some 14 months after the Sundance film festival release) and last, but certainly not least, Nothing But the Truth which is expected on September 19th of '08.

Don't worry folks, Kate's film drought is about to come to an end.

Not the Norm

Having recently read a thread on another forum where a Kate fanatic was explaining one of the reasons why he thought she was such a great person, I thought this would make an interesting post as I happen to share his feelings.

He said something along the lines of: I like the fact that despite her great mass of wealth, she's not flashy - she doesn't go out and buy some thirty cars and a gigantic mansion. And I'm sure you Kate fanatics will agree that it's true. Despite making some £3,000,000 in 2006, Kate doesn't have a flashy car - for more than a few reasons, mind you - but nor does live in the some excessive mansion with machine guns, security guards and the Great Wall of China surrounding her.

And you know, Len appears to be like that too. Though often accused of "looking like a bum", I admire the fact that he's not a flashy guy. He appears to be quite ordinary and despite his great mass of wealth - oh yeah, you can be sure he's got it - he drove a late 90's BMW 3-Series Cabriolet for a long while until last year when he purchased a Range Rover. Though, one could argue that a Range Rover is the epitome of the "trendy SUV for the wealthy", I truly don't believe it was bought for reasons of boasting.

I really do believe Kate is a "down to earth" kind of person, and that's yet another reason why I admire her so much.

Just One More

Having yet to post a picture of Kate's costume from the rear, I thought you'd folks would like to see this picture I just recently stumbled upon. And may I say it again, what a costume!

I honestly think Kate wins the award of "best costume this Halloween worn by a celebrity". I mean c'mon, look at Paris Hilton's costumes -
"Marine" and "Alice in Wonderland". They're so slutty it's not even funny. Meanwhile, Britney Spears' was tasteless and almost disgusting, while Danielle Lloyd also went for a truly revealing and ultimately, slutty outfit.

While outfits worn by both
Christina Milian and Avril Lavigne were downright dreadful (in my opinion), at least they weren't slutty! Other such non-slutty outfits worn by celebrities this year include those worn by Heidi Klum and Petra Nemcova (cat and Cleopatra, respectively - See HERE), Gwen Stefani (cat, yet again) and Liv Tyler (native American!)

What makes Kate's costume so great in my opinion is that it's undoubtedly sexy, but shows no skin whatsoever. As a result, I believe that it is appropriate for most any party. On the other hand, maybe I'm just biased...

Kate's Halloween Costume! Pt.2

New ones - untagged, more pictures and larger resolution.

If you look closely, it looks as if the underlay of the outfit is her Underworld leather suit. It really is quite an outfit! Quite unique, very cool and ultimately, sexy. And Kate really do look as if she was poured into that outfit; or in other words, her curves are clearly evident. Her body has no imperfections as far as I'm concerned!

And way to go Kate! Not only does she spend every Halloween with her family, but she does it with a great deal of enthusiasm.
