Devilish Charms?
I thought this would be an interesting topic for not only my readers, but for myself to explore.
I've seen more than a handful of comments across the internet which identify Mrs. Beckinsale as ignorant, rude or foul mouthed. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I am here to defend Kate and express my opinion on the matter.
Ignorant or rude? Well if you think she is, it's not for the purpose of being a "bad ass" by any means, its more for the sake of speaking her mind. For as long as I've followed Kate I have learned she isn't afraid to speak her mind and doesn't really care how others perceive her in the media.
One of the strongest examples is back in 2003 when she was interviewed on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. I'm sure the Los Angeles folk weren't too happy when she remarked the sentence "In London we have cabs, in LA you have cars full of murders" There's a golden comment if I've ever heard one. Although honestly, I can see how one might see that comment as being ignorant or rude, but pardon me - I laughed. Of course, what makes that comment even more ironic is that she currently lives in Santa Monica.
Of course, it does not end there, because Kate is also known for "naughty" comments.
How about the great breast incident on Jay Leno's, The Tonight Show? This is where she claimed she was great at breast feeding and could, I quote: "hit the wall from quite a distance"
Once again, I can see how one might interpret her attitude as foul mouthed. But then again, she isn't about to apologize for being "politically incorrect", or for not being the "usual" celebrity. Kate only plays one role when she's off the movie stage - herself.
Anyhow, I think the real reason she said that was to be funny, and it worked. I don't see how anyone could honestly say they did not laugh or at least smile at what she said.
And yet, when she says things of such nature, she doesn't sound like a tramp. She sounds like Kate Beckinsale.
I personally think her up-front, "say what I want" attitude is extremely sexy. Any woman who has the confidence to say any of the above comments in the public eye (with movie star status) is downright cool.
She has my respect, entirely.

On the subject of "shocking" (thanks to Dan Murray for bringing my attention to this particular quote)
"Kate says she strips for her director husband (Len Wiseman) on a webcam when they are working apart. (December 13, 2005)"
I imagine every male who just read that is smiling. And yet, when she says things of such nature, she doesn't sound like a tramp. She sounds like Kate Beckinsale.
