Washington, Apr 02 : English actress Kate Beckinsale has dismissed rumours that she is giving up raunchy film roles, insisting that she still wants to be sexy onscreen.
Beckinsale, who had sashayed about nude in the vampire movie 'Underworld', revealed last month that she is embarrassed by some of the roles she has taken on.
"The sex-bomb thing is totally fun but you want to take the red shoes off sometimes. I've been wanting to do something more dramatic," Contactmusic quoted her as saying.
But even though the 34-year-old had admitted to being embarrassed with some of the roles, she insists that it doesn't mean she will give up her sex symbol status for good.
"She welcomes playing a wide range of roles with good material - sexy, comedic, serious drama, etc," her publicist Leslie Sloane stated.

Genre & Acting
Once an actor or an actress falls into one particular genre of film it can surely be a hard thing to escape it. If you haven't already caught on, I'm talking about Kate's role in the "Underworld" films. I don't think anyone would argue that is pretty much the staple of her career. Hell, I imagine if you ask most anyone who Kate Beckinsale is - they'd say "the chick from those "Underworld" films, right?". Or perhaps you might receive the answer: "oh yeah, the chick from "Van Helsing".
However it would appear with forthcoming movie projects, Kate is aiming to stay away from those action packed all-age films and focus on a more serious set of roles. The only thing I can say is "hell yes!" Now don't get me wrong, I believe Kate played an excellent part in the "Underworld" films. It not only helped her become more known as an actress, but as a result she was able establish a bigger fan base, more film offers and create an exciting franchise. Even I will admit to having great affection for the series (the first one in particular), because I believe it to be far cooler than the typical in this genre.
What could be cooler than a sexy and beautiful Vampire chick jumping through the air (in a leather cat suit) firing automatic rifles? And to cap it off, fighting off numerous Vampires and Werewolves. Now you've got to admit that is ultra cool.
However lets be honest, movie such as those are exactly known as the pinnacle of acting. In fact, films such as those don't really require "good" acting. So as much as I enjoy when Kate plays a kick ass part like in "Underworld", I am happy to hear forthcoming roles will put in her more venerable situation. I personally believe casual viewer of "Underworld" won't be able to recognize and/or appreciate Kate as an actress. Only Kate fanatics which have followed her through a great deal of career will be aware of her true acting abilities. Movies such as "TipToes" and earlier works prove that she is not just a pretty face - she really can act (and I want it proven even more so!)

As an actress, Kate is born with the natural instinct and I suppose it's a carried over talent given by her parents (also actors). In my opinion, she certainly makes the most out of every role (given the script and whatnot)Again, thank God for upcoming films such as "Winged Creatures" and "Whiteout". Both films aim at delivering roles which Kate has never played before and the world, will get to see another side of Kate. I cannot wait!
Mark my words, her best has yet to arrive.
